On June 24, 2023, the National Assembly passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on exit and entry of Vietnamese citizens and the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam. Vietnam amends 2023. The law takes effect from August 15, 2023 with new regulations related to the addition of the place of birth to the passport.
Accordingly, with the regulation on adding "place of birth" information to households, it will facilitate citizens in applying for visas, entry, residence and related procedures in countries that require printing information. Place of birth in passport.
Currently, according to the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens 2019, information on entry and exit documents (passports) includes:
- Portrait;
- Surname, middle name and first name;
- Date of birth;
- Gender;
- Nationality;
- Sign, number of entry and exit papers;
- Date, month, year of issue, issuing agency;
- Expiration date, month, year;
- Personal identification number or identity card number;
- Positions and titles for diplomatic passports and official passports are suitable to foreign affairs requirements.

According to the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam as amended in 2023, information on entry and exit documents (passports) includes :
- Portrait;
- Surname, middle name and first name;
- Gender;
- Place of birth;
- Date of birth;
- Nationality;
- Sign, number of entry and exit papers; granting agencies; date, month, year of issue; expiration date, month, year;
- Personal identification number or identity card number;
- Positions and titles for diplomatic passports and official passports are suitable for foreign affairs;
- Other information prescribed by the Government.
Thus, with the new regulations, passports have been added with an information field about the place of birth.
In addition, according to the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam as amended in 2023, when adding the place of birth to the passport, the citizen will has been issued with a passport according to the old form to be used until the expiry of the old passport's date of entry.
