On July 6, 2022, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued Resolution 20/2022/UBTVQH15 to further reduce the environmental protection tax rate for gasoline, oil, and grease. Accordingly, the environmental protection tax rate applied to gasoline prices from July 11, 2022, of which the environmental protection tax on gasoline (except ethanol) is 1,000 VND/liter; and for diesel oil is 500 VND/liter;
Note: Resolution 20/2022/UBTVQH15 is only valid until the end of December 31, 2022. According to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 1 of Resolution 20/2022/UBTVQH15, the environmental protection tax on petrol and oil can return to the previous level as prescribed in Resolution 579/2018/UBTVQH14 from January 1, 2023.
Regarding the gasoline tax rate in 2023, the Ministry of Finance has proposed to continue to apply the environmental protection tax with the lowest level of the current tax bracket of 1,000 VND per liter of gasoline in 2023 as in 2022.
However, on the afternoon of December 30, the National Assembly Standing Committee considered and approved a draft Resolution on environmental protection tax rates for gasoline, oil and grease in 2023. Compared to the tax rate specified in Resolution 579/2018/UBTVQH14.

This resolution on environmental protection tax will be submitted for signature on December 31, 2022, for the Resolution to take effect from January 1, 2013. Specifically, the National Standing Committee approved:
(1) Environmental protection tax rate: for gasoline (except ethanol) is 2,000 VND/liter; diesel, lubricant, fuel oil and grease is 1,000 VND/liter, kg; kerosene 600 VND/liter. Particularly, the tax on jet fuel has not increased or decreased but is maintained at 1,000 VND/liter.
(2) Application period: From January 1, 2023 to the end of December 31, 2023. From the beginning of 2024, the environmental protection tax will return to the ceiling of the tax bracket.
